Read Anseillan
Introduction
From the windows of Château Lafite Rothschild, Anseillan can be seen on the eastern horizon, at the top of a gravel ridge, and on the edge of marshes, forests, and meadows where cows graze.
Anseillan is a locality on the estate of Château Lafite Rothschild. It has always been a part of it. It is a wine with an identity of its own.
This hamlet, made up of small disparate stone houses typical of the Médoc, has existed since the 16th century and became part of the Château Lafite Rothschild estate in 1970 thanks to Elie de Rothschild.
It is a place of family and neighbourhood life. Firstly, it was a place of residence for the farmers, breeders, and winegrowers of Lafite. Even today, the people of Lafite stay there, live there, and raise their children there without ever taking their eyes off the Château.
Anseillan is also a historical place, firmly anchored in the history and values of Lafite.
The Wine
“To drink Anseillan is to taste a form of simplicity and evidence.”
The Anseillan wine is made by the Lafite teams in the Lafite winery and cellars, and with the same love and passion. Although its production varies from one vintage to the other, its quality is consistent.
With its authenticity, the wine of Anseillan accompanies good times. It expresses a form of wisdom, of peasant common sense, a search for truth. A quest for excellence, too, and above all a love of learning.
It is a straightforward, precise, and consistent wine. A Pauillac with a clear identity. Another expression of the terroir of Château Lafite Rothschild.
The Future
The plots around the hamlet of Anseillan are being restructured, new viticultural practices are being experimented with, nature is being monitored, and the links between the vine and biodiversity are being analysed.
